the lorenz attractor: one of the most famous strange attractors used to represent the flow of chaotic systems (1). it was originally presented in 1963 by edward lorenz through his studies of dynamic weather patterns, in particular, convection currents (2). eventually, he’d come to term it the butterfly effect, at the recommendation of philip merilees (3).
